For the Cheese Layer
  • 15 oz Ricotta Cheese Cottage cheese can be substituted.
  • 1 large Egg An egg replacement can be used.
  • 2 cups Mozzarella Cheese Provolone or gouda can be used.
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Gather your ingredients and equipment.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté chopped onion until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic, ground beef, and pork. Cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes.
  3. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, dried basil, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 30 minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Blend until smooth.
  5. Grease baking dish with olive oil. Spread a layer of meat sauce, followed by lasagna noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella. Repeat layering, finishing with mozzarella and Parmesan.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Let the lasagna rest for 15 minutes before serving to allow layers to set.
