  • 1 loaf Sourdough Bread cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 cups Blueberries fresh or frozen
  • 6 Eggs large
  • 1 cup Milk or almond milk for dairy-free
  • 1 cup Half and Half or heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar omit for lower-sugar variant
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar light or dark based on preference
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract or almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon or nutmeg for a twist
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted Butter cold, for greasing and topping
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour or almond flour for gluten-free
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt kosher or table salt
For the Crumble Topping
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted Butter cold
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour or almond flour
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar light or dark based on taste
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon or nutmeg for warmth

Method
 

Casserole Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, half and half, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until smooth.
  3. Cut the sourdough bread into uniform bite-sized pieces and fold them into the custard mixture until fully coated.
  4. Gently fold in 1 cup of blueberries, and pour the mixture into the greased baking dish. Sprinkle remaining blueberries on top.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together cold butter, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon to make the crumble topping.
  6. Sprinkle the crumble topping over the casserole, then bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Let the casserole cool for about 10 minutes before serving warm with powdered sugar or maple syrup.
