- Gather all ingredients: sourdough or whole-grain bread, fresh mozzarella cheese, ripe tomato, fresh basil leaves, and olive oil or butter. Slice mozzarella and tomato into even pieces, then rinse and pat dry the basil.
- Layer one slice of bread with fresh mozzarella, followed by tomato slices, a pinch of salt and pepper, and basil leaves. Place the second slice of bread on top, pressing gently.
- Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, place your sandwich in the skillet and grill for 3-4 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Flip the sandwich with a spatula, cooking for another 3-4 minutes until both sides are golden and the cheese is melted.
- Remove from skillet, let sit for a minute, then slice in half. Serve warm, optionally drizzled with balsamic glaze.
