Method
 

Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of milk, 3/4 cup sugar, 1 cup cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt. Whisk vigorously for 2-3 minutes until smooth.
  2. Incorporate 1 cup of heavy cream and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract into your chocolate mixture. Stir gently for another 2 minutes.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  4. If you have an ice cream maker, pour the chilled mixture into it and churn for 20-25 minutes.
  5. If not using an ice cream maker, pour the mixture into a shallow baking dish. Freeze and stir vigorously every 30 minutes for up to 4 hours.
  6. Once the ice cream is nearly set, fold in 1/2 cup of chocolate chips or 1 mashed banana.
  7. Transfer back into the freezer for an additional 4 hours or until firm.
  8. To serve, scoop into chilled bowls and garnish as desired.
