- In a large skillet, heat a splash of olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and chopped onion, cooking for 5-7 minutes until browned.
- Stir in minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Add tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, dried basil, oregano, red pepper flakes, and sugar. Simmer for 25-30 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, and chopped parsley. Mix until smooth.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Layer the lasagna starting with a meat sauce layer, followed by lasagna noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella. Repeat layers, finishing with noodles and meat sauce.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
