For the Potato Base
  • 4 medium Russet Potatoes Yukon Gold can be substituted for a creamier texture.
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
For the Filling
  • 1 pound Lean Ground Beef Alternatives: Ground chicken or turkey.
  • 1 medium Yellow Onion Finely chopped.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced.
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese Substitute with mozzarella or pepper jack.
For Breading
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 large Eggs Beaten.
  • 2 cups Panko Breadcrumbs Regular breadcrumbs may vary in texture.
For Frying & Garnish
  • 2 cups Vegetable Oil For frying.
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Parsley Chopped.

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and return to pot.
  2. Mash potatoes with butter and milk until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Spread mashed potatoes in a shallow dish and chill in the refrigerator for 30-60 minutes.
  4. Cook ground beef in a skillet until browned. Add onion and cook until soft. Stir in garlic and spices.
  5. Form balls with potato mixture, adding beef filling and cheese. Seal to prevent leaking.
  6. Bread balls by rolling in flour, dipping in eggs, and coating with Panko.
  7. Fry balls in hot oil until golden brown, about 4-6 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
  8. Garnish with parsley and serve hot.
