Ingredients
  

For the Batter
  • 1 pound Beef Sirloin or Flank Steak Thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup Cornstarch Substitute with potato starch if desired
  • 1/2 cup All-Purpose Flour Use gluten-free flour as an alternative
  • 1 large Egg Can be omitted for a vegan version
  • 1/2 cup Water Replace with non-dairy milk for deeper flavor
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder Ensure it's fresh
For Frying
  • 1 cup Vegetable Oil Can use canola or peanut oil
For the Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce Use tamari for gluten-free
  • 2 tablespoons Rice Vinegar Can substitute with apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup Hoisin Sauce Mix soy sauce and honey if unavailable
  • 1 tablespoon Chili Sauce Adjust to taste, Sriracha works well
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar Brown sugar can enhance flavors
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced, fresh is preferred
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger Minced, fresh is preferred
For the Stir-Fry
  • 1 medium Onion Thinly sliced
  • 1 medium Bell Pepper Sliced
  • 2 medium Red Chilies Optional
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil For finishing
  • 2 stalks Chopped Green Onions For garnish

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Slice the beef sirloin or flank steak thinly against the grain into strips.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together cornstarch, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Add the egg and gradually mix in water until smooth.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and fry the beef strips in batches until golden.
  5. In a wok, heat sesame oil and sauté garlic, ginger, onion, and bell pepper until fragrant.
  6. Stir in soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, chili sauce, and sugar; simmer to thicken.
  7. Add cooked beef to the sauce, tossing gently to coat and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Garnish with sliced red chilies and chopped green onions, serving immediately.
