Ingredients
  

Beef Marinade
  • 1 lb Flank Steak can swap for sirloin or ribeye
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce opt for tamari for gluten-free
  • 2 tbsp Oyster Sauce hoisin sauce for a sweeter taste
  • 2 tbsp Shaoxing Wine can replace with dry sherry or rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch essential for texture
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Soda helps to tenderize the meat
Stir Fry
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil can substitute with canola or peanut oil
  • 2 medium Yellow Onions feel free to use sweet onions or shallots
  • 3 cloves Garlic minced fresh
  • 1 tbsp Sugar optional for less sweet version
  • 1/2 cup Beef Broth or Water use water if broth isn’t available
  • 1 tbsp Sesame Oil don’t substitute for best results
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper freshly ground preferred
  • 2 tbsp Chopped Green Onions optional garnish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Marinate the beef by combining flank steak with soy sauce, oyster sauce, Shaoxing wine, cornstarch, and baking soda. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes.
  2. While beef is marinating, slice yellow onions and mince garlic.
  3. Heat wok or skillet over high heat. Add vegetable oil and let it shimmer.
  4. Add the marinated beef in a single layer. Sear for 1-2 minutes then stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until cooked through.
  5. Remove beef from pan and set aside. In the same wok, stir-fry onions for about 3-4 minutes until translucent and caramelized.
  6. Push onions to the side, add minced garlic and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  7. Return the beef to the pan along with sugar and beef broth. Stir everything for 1-2 minutes until sauced.
  8. Drizzle sesame oil, toss to combine, garnish with chopped green onions, and serve hot.
