  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
For the Sauce
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter can substitute with vegan butter or olive oil
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce your favorite store-bought or homemade
  • 2 tablespoons honey optional but recommended
  • 3 cloves garlic freshly minced
For the Tortillas
  • 4 pieces tortillas flour or corn, or lettuce wraps for low-carb
For the Toppings
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro for garnish
  • 1/4 cup red onions sliced
  • 1 piece lime cut into wedges for serving

Equipment

  • skillet
  • Mixing bowl

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Start by thinly slicing your choice of beef; sirloin or flank steak works beautifully for tenderness. In a bowl, toss the sliced beef with smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper until each piece is well-coated.
  2. Heat a splash of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the seasoned beef and cook for about 4-5 minutes, stirring continuously until it’s browned and just cooked through.
  3. In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add unsalted butter. Once melted, throw in the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, or until fragrant but not browned.
  4. Pour the BBQ sauce and honey into the skillet with the sautéed garlic, stirring well to blend everything together.
  5. Return the cooked beef to the skillet, stirring it into the sauce for about 2 minutes to ensure the flavors meld.
  6. While the beef mixture is simmering, warm your tortillas in a skillet or microwave to make them soft and pliable.
  7. To assemble, divide the beef mixture evenly among the warmed tortillas. Top each one with sliced red onions and fresh cilantro.
  8. Serve your tacos with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the top.
