  • 2 pounds Ground Beef 80/20 for optimal juiciness
  • 1 medium Finely Minced Onion or shallots for milder flavor
  • 2 large Eggs acts as a binder
  • 1 cup Bread Crumbs Italian-style for added flavor
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce or soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Seasoning Salt or regular salt, adjust quantity
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder or fresh garlic for stronger flavor
  • 1/2 cup Ketchup used in meat mixture and glaze
For the Gooey Center
  • 8 ounces Fresh Sliced Mozzarella Cheese or provolone as substitute
For the Glaze
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar or honey as alternative sweetener
  • 2 tablespoons Mustard or Dijon mustard for sharper flavor

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 baking dish with nonstick spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, finely minced onion, eggs, bread crumbs, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, seasoning salt, garlic powder, and ½ cup of ketchup. Mix gently until just combined.
  3. Take half of the meat mixture and press it evenly into the prepared baking dish, forming a compact base layer.
  4. Layer fresh mozzarella slices on top of the meat base, ensuring even distribution.
  5. Cover the mozzarella with the remaining meat mixture, sealing all edges tightly.
  6. In a small bowl, mix ¼ cup of ketchup with brown sugar and mustard until well combined. Spread it evenly over the top.
  7. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 1 hour and 15-30 minutes, checking that the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  8. Once baked, remove the meatloaf from the oven and allow it to rest for several minutes before slicing.
