Baking Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Incorporate vegetable oil, eggs one at a time, vanilla extract, and white vinegar until smooth.
  4. Sift together the flour, black cocoa, unsweetened cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternating with buttermilk, mixing gently.
  6. Add black food coloring if desired.
  7. Divide batter evenly between pans and smooth the tops.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool the cakes in pans for 10 minutes then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
