Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, blend together the ground beef, diced onion, egg, crushed Saltine crackers, dried oregano, and garlic powder. Add the tomato ketchup, kosher salt, and ground black pepper. Mix until everything is just combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into 4 to 5 even patties, aiming for around 1-inch thickness. Let them rest briefly.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the remaining ketchup and light brown sugar until smooth to prepare the glaze.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a tablespoon of oil until shimmering.
  5. Carefully add the patties to the skillet and sear for about 5 to 7 minutes without moving them.
  6. Flip the patties, spoon the glaze over each one, and cook for an additional 5 to 6 minutes, until internal temperature reaches 160°F.
  7. Let patties rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
