- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Gather ingredients and prepare the baking dish.
- Slice potatoes and onion into approximately ¼-inch thick pieces.
- Season ground beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
- (Optional) Brown seasoned ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat for 5-7 minutes.
- Spray a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes evenly at the bottom of the dish followed by half of the sliced onions.
- Spread the browned ground beef mixture evenly over the onions and layer chosen vegetables on top.
- Add remaining sliced onions and potatoes on top, seasoning each layer lightly.
- Mix cream of mushroom soup with beef broth and pour over the casserole.
- Cover tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 60-75 minutes until fork-tender.
- (Optional) Remove foil, sprinkle cheese on top, and bake uncovered for an additional 10-15 minutes.
