Step-by-Step Instructions for Wisconsin Butter Burgers
- In a small bowl, combine 6 tablespoons of softened unsalted butter with 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce. Blend until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
- Divide the 1.5 pounds of ground beef into four equal portions, shaping each into a loose patty about ½ inch thick. Season both sides generously with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter. Spread it on the inside of the buns. Toast the buns cut side down for about 2 minutes until golden brown.
- Increase the skillet’s heat to high. Place the patties into the skillet and smash down each patty using a spatula. Cook for 2–3 minutes, then flip and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Add cheese during the last 30 seconds if desired.
- Remove the patties from the skillet and spread the butter mixture on top of each hot patty.
- Place each patty onto the toasted buns and add optional toppings like caramelized onions, pickles, or ketchup.

Notes
Avoid overworking the beef when forming the patties for the best texture. Preheat skillet adequately for a nice sear. Customize toppings to enhance your homemade experience.
